INTERVIEWS - Aquelarre Magazine (Peru) 2000

1.First, my praises to you on your release "Kingdoms Of Greed". How has the response been so far?
Thanks man! Well, since the album hasn't really been out that long, there are not that many reviews done of it yet. But the ones we've read thus far have all been very good. Apart from zines and the like, the response has been overwhelming.

2.Tell us the history behind Unmoored (who founded it, when, release history, etc.)
Me (Christian that is), Rickard and Tobbe put it all together back in the late winter of 1993. We made a couple of demos along with trying out various drummers the following years. But it was not until our third and final demo to date, "More To The Story Than Meets The Eye" (1997), that labels awoke an interest in us. Pulverised offer was the most pleasing one at the time and that settled the matter.

3.Tell us about your first release "Cimmerian"…
It was recorded at Sunlight studios in the late winter of 1997 by producers Tomas Skogsberg and Jocke Pettersson (who by the way plays the drums on "Kingdoms Of Greed"), but due to different reasons (that I will not enter upon here) it was not released until the summer of 1999. It's not quite as fast, nor is it as intense as "Kingdoms...". Instead the greater part of the material rely on a heavy groove that runs all through the album. Why this change of style you may wonder. Well, you tell me what the point in making another "Cimmerian" is!?

4.What are you personal music favorites? Are there any new bands in the scene that you've taken interest in?
Pretty much anything that attracts my attention really. When it comes to new bands establishing I must say I find Swedish "Nasum" to be one of the most interesting constellations around at the moment. Downright grind-core to the bone!

5.What bands have helped influence your music and lyrics?
Well, bands like Slayer and Metallica have always been very close to my heart. Other metal-gods I've come to like throughout the years are Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Vader, Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Emperor, At The Gates, Entombed, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Eucharist, Dissection and Edge Of Sanity to mention a few.

6.What do you think about religion? Foremost, Christianity?
In a way religion can be a good thing I guess. Working as a place of refuge from the humdrum of every day. A sanctuary where you can find spiritual guidence and strength. Christianity is such a refuge in my opinion. Then again, religion can be a very controversial way of abuse of power. Not that I think Christianity is your typical "pulling-strings-establishment" or anything. It's just that I think some of the things it and its followers stand for can and should be critically questioned. After all, their faith do rely upon a book once written by man.

7.Who writes the lyrics and what subjects inspire them?
I write all the lyrics and they mostly deal with subjective matters, personal stuff. But every now and then I get blown away by a great movie or an interesting documentary for instance and consequently have to transform the newly won inspiration into lyrics. I guess you can say I pretty much write about whatever is on my mind at the moment.

8.What is your favorite release of 2000 (besides yours of course)?
I think the new albums from "Vader", "Nasum" and "The Crown" kick diabolical ass and I'm really looking forward to hear the new material from "The Haunted" later this year.

9.Is Pulverised Records working hard to promote your release?

When "Cimmerian" was released back in 1999, Pulverised suffered from really severe financial problems. Unfortunately this came to affect our promotion and consequently our sales. Hopefully this will not be the case with the promotion of "Kingdoms...". Especially now that Pulverised have managed to get their economy back on track again.

10.Did you have a lot of offers from other labels?
Not many, but there were others. Pulverised offer was the most attractive one at the moment though.

11.What are your plans now? Will you continue to write new music and tour?
I'll definately be writing new music. As for touring, I find it hard to believe there will be any. At least not as long as we're signed to Pulverised Records. Why you may wonder. Well, first of all, it's a rather small company with limited resources you see and it's not cheap sending a band out on a tour these days. Secondly, since they are a Singaporian label, they would probably be having problems arranging a tour here in Europe being located so far away and all.

12.We thank you for your time an thoughts! Any closing comments?
Thanks for your shown interest and good luck with your magazine in the future. For the rest of you, don't forget to check out our brand-new album, entitled "Kingdoms Of Greed". If you like it brutal and melodic at the same time, you'll definately like this one!
