INTERVIEWS - Armageddon Magazine (Italy) 2000

Hi guys! Let me first of all thank you for your willingness and give you my compliments for "Kingdoms Of Greed", simply great...

1.I pop a question: why a good group like yours is so unknow here in Italy? Is it because of Pulverised Rec.?

Yeah, you could say that. We didnt get that much promotion for "Cimmerian" as far as I know... Everything went slowly, took a long time.... but now with "Kingdoms..." it seems like it's working better.

2.Would you tell us a brief history of UNMOORED?
Me, Christian and Torbjörn put the band together back in 1994 and since then we have made 3 demos. The last one of them resulted in a recorddeal with Pulverised Records. We have released 2 records through them - "Cimmerian" and "Kingdoms Of Greed".

3.Why did a Swedish group sign a contract with a Singaporian label?
We sent our last demo to several labels and Pulverised was the one with the best offer.

4.How is your relation with Pulverised?
With Cimmerian it wasnt that good since everything took so long time, but now since everything is going better, and faster with "Kingdoms...", we think that they are ok.

5.I think that your first full-length, CIMMERIAN, is very close to the typical Swedish Death Metal sound. Do you think is that true?
Even if powerful and, let me say, Death'n'Roll, I think it's not as well recorded as Kingdoms Of Greed.... Thats true, it´s our first cd and that was the way we sounded then, but most of all the sound on "Kingdoms..." is a lot better than on "Cimmerian".

6.In your second work, I found a certain Black inspiration I could not find in the first album. What is the reason?
There is no special reason, it's just the way the new songs came to be when we wrote them. We liked the way the turned out and continued...

7.Listening to Cimmerian and Kingdoms Of Greed, they seem to come from two different bands. How do you explain this clear change of direction?
It could have something to do with the fact that Christian have been writing everything on "Kingdoms...", and also the fact that Nicke (our former drummer) left the band and due to that we were able to put up the level on the drumplay a lot...

8.I'd like to know what are the themes the lyrics of your new album speak about...
They are conceptual actually. They deal with all those bittersweet desires that form our lives.

9.How does the everyday life influence your songwriting?
Very little! It's mostly just the lyrics that are under the influence of our everyday lives when we're in the midst of writing new material.

10.Could you explain what is the meaning behind Kingdoms Of Greed?
You can say "Kingdoms" works as a synonym for "earth". "Greed" on the other hand is a critical paraphrase of "mankind", figuratively that is.

11.I think that UNMOORED style is quite particular, as it contains fierce Black parts, very Death oriented mid-tempos and great melodic passages. How would you define your sound?
You could say that it varies a lot, its heavy, hard and melodic, but you can always hear that it's Unmoored.

12.Your glacial Black atmospheres, together with sharp guitar riffs and dreaming melodies let us think of a high technical and compositive ability. Don't you think so? Merging such different styles without making the listener get confused appears to be quite difficult; how did you get it?
We don't think that way. We just put together what we think sounds good. If that means mixing death metal with goth, black metal with folk music, so be it.

13.I found a heavier presence of keyboards on Kingdoms Of Greed, and the use of the fiddles... how important are these instruments for your sound?
Well, if keyboards or fiddles or any other instument sounds good in the song we will use it, but we are not planning on having a permanent keyboard member or anything...

14.The main UNMOORED line-up is made of only three people. Why the drummer is presented only as a guest? Isn't he a stable member?
No, we have only "borrowed" Jocke for "Kingdoms...", we still dont have a permanent drummer - so if there is anyone out there who can play the drums really hard and fast - dont hesitate; contact us!!! (unmoored@hotmail.com)

15.How important is it for you to play live? Do you plan a tour? Do you have other projects for the future?

Its kind of hard for us to play live since we dont have a permanent drummer, but we would like to play more live if we could. As goes for touring, there isn't any planned.

16.By the way, I almost forgot it.... the hidden track on Kingdoms Of Greed is very nice! Where did you get the idea for that kind of song?
It was just a fun ting that Christian made on a computer, but when he showed us what he hade done, we thought it was cool and decided to have it featured on the cd as a hidden track. It was just a fun thing to do, we will not going over to playing techno in the future or anything, that's for sure J.

17.That's all! I leave you giving you my compliments again for the work you have done so long; keep this way, guys!
Thanks to you too for spreading our name and liking our music. Rickard/unmoored
