INTERVIEWS - Metal Harmonies (Belgium) 2000

Hi Christian, Hope you are well.
Hi there Philippe! Well, things are pretty ok as a matter of fact. The future of Unmoored has never looked brighter.

1) Could you depict your concept through the band's name and maybe the cimmerian's cover ?
Well, before we got signed to Pulverised, we went through a pretty dark period as a band. So once we got signed, we felt like it was the end of a tragic chapter and the start of a new, brighter looking one! We thought it would be a pretty cool idea to have the cover of Cimmerian working as "page-turner" for us so to speak! Like, it is the dark period, up to that day we got signed, that is buried on the cover, allegorically that is. About our bandname, we just thought it sounded cool so it kind of stuck!

2) How did you manage to get a deal with an Asian Records label ?
Once we had recorded our third and final demo to date, entitled "More To The Story Than Meets The Eye", we started spreading copies of it all around. Pulverised was one of the first labels getting back to us. There was a couple of other labels showing interest as well, but we thought Pulverised offer was the most satisfying one at the moment so...

3) How do u compose your songs ? Are you politicaly engaged ( i.e. Warsong ) ?
Nowadays I write all the material on my own. This has more or less been the case since we started back in 94. I can't really explain how I go about composing, it's just me doing what I do I guess. My lyrics do not deal with political issues that often, but occasionaly they do and when it happens, they're mostly about wordly matters, like injustices in general. I can't really say I'm politicaly engaged, but it's not like I don't care. I do have an opinion.

4) How can you explain that so many talentuous bands are now coming from Sweden ?
Tough question! I think one of the reasons is that Swedish kids have the possibility to learn how to play instruments at an early age. The presence of several musical supportgroups then create the necessary conditions for developing and succeding as a band.

5) This album was recorded in 97. Did you use this three years period to write new materials ?
Well, not really. Cimmerian got somewhat delayed due to several reasons and during this time we went through some critical changes. We have a new session drummer now for instance (Jocke Pettersson, known from bands such as Thy Primordial and Dawn amongst others), since Nicke who played on Cimmerian decided to leave the band back in January-99. From that day on, the material for the new album started to come about and it was finally recorded in October-99 at studio Abyss.

6) Do you have a short message for the audience here in Belgium ?
First of all, thank you Philippe for your shown interest, best of luck to you and your magazine. Secondly, don't forget to watch out for our up-coming second opus, entitled "Kingdoms Of Greed". Hopefully it will reach the record stores sometime this Spring. In the meantime, check out our debut album, "Cimmerian", and always remember to keep the banner of metal high!
