First of all, why
did you change all the members of the line-up? Was it due to personal
quarrels, or else?
(Henrik answering):
We didn´t change all the members. When I joined, Unmoored had not
been with a full-time drummer for years. It´s another deal regarding
the guitarist and bassplayer. We realized that we were all in different
places in our lives and if Unmoored were going to go forward and develop,
Rickard (guitar) and Tobbe (bass) felt that me and Christian should continue
on our own. We didn´t really have the same goal with the band, but
there were never any hard feelings. We split up as friends. After they
left, we welcomed Thomas onboard.
Besides the troubles with Pulverised Records, why did you take almost
4 years to release a new album?
(Henrik answering):
A while after pulverised got bankrupt, we recorded a promo with two songs,
which also appear on the album (Cinders Veil & Leave-taking). We send
it out to about 20 recordlabels and after a while a couple of labels got
in touch with us, Code 666 being one of them. They really liked the promo
and were desperate to get us onboard. Since they were so enthustiastic,
we decided to join up with them. Another reason for the delay is a long
recording process. Also illness (Christian got a throatinfection), delayed
us a couple of months.
Your new album is a sort of a melting pot of all death metal styles, some
thrash and some classic metal... how did you get this result? Did you
want to merge many styles in the same album, or did the songs come out
naturally?
(Henrik answering):
Both actually! We always try to push ourselves and the band to the next
level. We like to incorporate alot of different stuff to make the music
more diverse and interesting, but when we compose music, we actually just
sit down and write riffs and parts that we think sound cool. Then if it
turn out as death metal, black metal or whatever, it doesn´t matter.
If it sounds cool, we will keep it!
Can you tell us which themes the lyrics deal with of "Indefinite
Soul-Extension", since I did not receive them with the promo version,
and I can't find them on your website?
(Christian answering):
They are very personal this time and since I'd like to keep them so, I'm
afraid I can't let you in on them any further...sorry!
I really liked the production of your new album, it's quite raw and natural,
quite far from the usual Abyss productions (which started to bore me honestly).
Are you happy about how "Indefinite Soul-Extension" sound? Was
it difficult to convince the Tatgren brothers to record an album that
sounds natural and not like all the other stuff from their studio?
(Christian answering):
Recording at the Abyss studios is always very stimulating and inspirational.
The Tägtgren brothers are both very easy to work with, as well as
associating with. The surroundings are also very cool and gives a great
atmosphere to the whole thing. Since we've been to Abyss a couple of times,
before recording "Indefinite Soul-Extension", we know Tommy
Tägtgren quite well by now, as well as the recording procedure. Therefore
we already knew about Tommy's skills, as well as what we can accomplish
at his residens. It was a bit hectic recording the foundation (rhythm-guitars,
bass and drums) of "Indefinite Soul-Extension" though, since
the studio only was at our disposal for one week this time (vocals, guitar-leads
and synthesizers were all recorded at another studio, owned by our lead-guitarist).
Considering this, I do think the outcome is very good. Of course there
are always things you could have done better, in a different way, excluded
and so on, but I guess that’s never gonna change. If you were to
be 100% satisfied with an album, there would be no point in continuing
really, since not being completely satisfied is the trigger needed, in
order to top yourself in the future. At least, that's how it works for
me.
Are you planning to tour in Europe?
(Christian answering):
We'd sure like to, but there's nothing planned at the moment.
Will "Final State Part IV" be a grindcore song??? hehehehe
(Christian answering):
Hehe...yeah...a grinding ballad. Talk about progressive metal! :) Joking
apart! There won't be another "Final State". "Part III"
is and will be the last one!
Which is you opinion about the Swedish metal scene? What do you think
about all the death and black metal clone bands that come out from your
country?
(Henrik answering):
Well, first of all, It´s pretty cool that there are so many bands
unveiling these days, here in Sweden. Secondly, as goes for clones, it´s
a bit sad that only a few of them dare to go for a more personal sound.
It doesn't necessarily has to be downright original or anything, but it
would be cool if people weren't so afraid of following their hearts. Once
you're honest to yourself and to what you're doing, things can never go
wrong. Honesty always pays off and that's when you will obtain a sound
of your own.
On your website schedules there is written that Christian is polygamist,
Henrik welcomes groupies, and Thomas "does not prescribe"...
where do you find viagra to please your wives and your groupies if Thomas
does not prescribe it??? hehehehhe
(Henrik answering):
We are young and fertile. We don´t need viagra...at least not yet...haha!
If I name Italy, then what do you think about?
(Christian answering):
Code666, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, mafia, pizza, soccer and sunny weather!
:)
One last idiot question: did you decide the name of your band after watching
"Love Boat" on TV???
(Christian answering):
Hehe...that information will cost you! :)
Ok, now you can close the interview saying what you want.
Thanks for showing interest and for helping us spreading the word! To
all fans of dynamic and progressive death/black metal, be sure to check
out "Indefinite Soul-Extension". Out now through Code666! Over
and out...
